In a dynamic and heartfelt interview on Power 106 LA's “Saturday Night Loud” with DJ Charisma, Teeflii, a staple of Los Angeles’ music scene, opened up about his career, his roots, and the next chapter in his musical journey. Known for his unmistakable West Coast sound, Teeflii—or T Fly, as his fans lovingly call him—touched on his past collaborations, personal struggles, and the exciting projects in the works.

A Long-Awaited Return

It’s been years since Teeflii graced Power 106 LA, and his return was met with enthusiasm. “It feels good to be around family again,” he shared, referencing the station’s supportive role in his early career. As the holidays approach, Teeflii’s reflections on family, legacy, and resilience set the tone for a conversation that was both nostalgic and forward-looking.

Teeflii’s fans have been vocal about their desire for new music. “The streets have been feening,” Charisma noted, echoing sentiments from social media posts that recently went viral. “It’s amazing to see the fans want me back out there,” Teeflii responded with gratitude.

Collaboration and Inspiration

Earlier this year, Teeflii teamed up with Dom Kennedy for the collaborative project I Love Stalker, a 10-track homage to his grandmother, affectionately called “Stalker.” The title, he revealed, holds deep personal significance. “You don’t get this Teeflii without her,” he said. “She was a singer, and everything I do started at her house on Stalker Avenue.” This familial foundation is at the heart of Teeflii’s artistry and underscores his commitment to honoring his roots.

When asked about the chemistry he shares with Dom Kennedy, Teeflii was effusive. “Dom is big bro,” he said. “He’s been there, keeping me stable and grounded. Musically, we bring out the best in each other.” Their hit single “Still Calling” remains a fan favorite, a testament to their enduring synergy.

A Multitalented Musician

Teeflii’s versatility extends beyond his vocals. From playing the drums and organ to mastering production, his range is impressive. “I learned from KS [fellow musician and collaborator],” he shared. “We had this healthy competition growing up, always pushing each other to get better.” This drive for excellence is evident in his work and the respect he commands in the industry.

Facing Challenges and Loss

The interview took an emotional turn as Teeflii discussed the loss of his brother, KS, and its profound impact on his life. “To see your mom and dad cry like that—it’s a different kind of pain,” he admitted. However, he emphasized the importance of resilience. “I love pressure because it makes me a better person. It’s about scoring, even when the odds are against you.”

Teeflii’s candidness extended to his own struggles and the lessons he’s learned. Reflecting on his younger years, he offered a piece of advice: “Protect yourself. Once babies get in the mix, it’s not a game anymore.” His words were a stark reminder of the consequences of choices and the value of maturity.

The State of West Coast Music

The conversation also highlighted the evolution of West Coast music. Charisma noted the industry’s criticisms of the current club scene, attributing its struggles to a lack of “ratchet R&B,” a genre Teeflii helped define. “The world is hungry for it,” he affirmed. “Our sound is unique, and we influence the rest of the world.”

Teeflii praised Kendrick Lamar for his contributions to the culture, calling his recent work “beautiful” and a much-needed boost for the West Coast. “Our best artists come from our city,” he said with pride.

What’s Next for Teeflii?

Fans won’t have to wait long for new music. Teeflii’s upcoming single “Circles” promises to bring back the “ratchet R&B” vibes that first catapulted him to fame. “It’s looking like this is going to be the next single,” he hinted. “It’s ratchet, and we need it back.”

Beyond singles, Teeflii is working on an album that will pay tribute to KS. Set for a 2025 release, the project is deeply personal. “KS wanted me to be at the forefront, but he was working too. We’re putting everything together to honor him.”

Teeflii’s commitment to collaboration remains strong. While he and producer Mustard have not worked together recently, he expressed optimism about reconnecting. “Mustard, where you at?” he joked. “We need that ratchet R&B, and the West Coast needs us working together again.”

A Message of Gratitude

As the interview concluded, Teeflii’s gratitude was palpable. He thanked DJ Charisma, Power 106 LA, and his loyal fans for their unwavering support. “This is an honor,” he said. “I’m blessed to be a little piece of the West Coast puzzle.”

Teeflii’s return to the spotlight is a testament to his resilience and passion for music. With a renewed focus and exciting projects on the horizon, his fans can look forward to a new chapter filled with the soulful and authentic sound they’ve come to love.
