In a significant move in the world of music publishing, Grammy-winning producer Cardo (Ronald Latour Jr.) has sold part of his music publishing catalog to Kilometre Music Group, a Canada-based company. The acquisition, managed through Kilometre’s Barometer Global Music Royalty Fund, includes 350 songs and represents some of the biggest hits of the streaming era.

Kilometre’s acquisition of Cardo’s catalog brings the company’s total investment in music rights to nearly $150 million. Among the acquired tracks are chart-toppers like Drake’s God’s Plan, Laugh Now Cry Later, and Wants and Needs, as well as Travis Scott’s 2016 hit Goosebumps, which has garnered over 3.3 billion streams on Spotify. The deal also includes collaborations with artists such as Kendrick Lamar, H.E.R., and Don Toliver.

“Cardo is a prolific music producer who has made some of the most culturally impactful songs for some of the biggest artists of the streaming era,” said Rodney Murphy, president of Kilometre Music Group. “We feel privileged to be a part of his life’s work.”

This acquisition is just one of several high-profile deals Kilometre has made in recent months, solidifying the company’s position as a leader in the modern music publishing landscape. Earlier this year, the company acquired stakes in Taylor Swift’s Lavender Haze and Karma and increased its ownership of hits by The Weeknd, including Blinding Lights and Starboy.

Cardo’s portfolio includes tracks by some of the industry’s most influential artists, such as Kendrick Lamar’s Family Ties with Baby Keem, H.E.R.’s Slide, and Don Toliver’s Private Landing featuring Justin Bieber and Future.

Expressing his excitement about the deal, Cardo humorously remarked, “Thanks to my team, my lawyer, and Kilometre for giving me an opportunity to buy a spaceship now.”

The music publishing landscape has seen a surge in catalog acquisitions, with investors increasingly recognizing the long-term value of owning song royalties. Kilometre, co-founded in 2021 by Michael McCarty and Rodney Murphy, has positioned itself as a major player in this growing market. The company’s catalog now includes more than 3,000 songs, with nine ranking among Spotify’s 20 most-streamed tracks.

As Kilometre continues to grow its song portfolio, Cardo’s catalog adds a new dimension to its already impressive collection of hits, reinforcing the value and cultural significance of music in today’s streaming-dominated world.
